The Blackbird Ranch deer hunting outfitter offers free-ranging whitetail deer and hog hunts on over 1,000 acres. We offer a limited number of free- range hunts per year to keep success rates high and strictly managed for trophy whitetail. We are conveniently located in Fairfield, Texas—only 70 minutes from Dallas, and just two hours and 20 minutes north of Houston. We are surrounded by thousands of acres of game-rich land, which keeps us teeming with wildlife. Our two large lakes total about 100 acres, with streams and creeks that keep large populations of whitetail and hog on our property. The lakes are stocked with world-class record-size Florida bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish for your fishing pleasure, so don’t forget your fishing gear. Our 2,000-square-foot lodge, perched over one of the lakes, is furnished with all the comforts of home. We are a family-friendly private group and corporate outing destination.
We have put a tremendous amount of time and effort into providing a true trophy free-range whitetail deer and hog hunting experience. The terrain is rolling hills, scattered with oak and pine woodlands. There are several huge food plots, protein feeders, and several miles of shooting lanes. Plenty of very thick hiding and bedding areas make it a challenging whitetail deer hunt. Free-range Texas whitetail naturally roam throughout the property. Our hog population is also abundant, and some of our trophy boar can exceed 400 pounds.
Our free-range hunts let you take mature does, trophy whitetail bucks, and wild hogs. While the doe and hog pricing are set, the trophy buck pricing fluctuates depending on score. We have box, ground, and tower blinds, some of which are handicap-accessible. Most free-range hunts are done from a stand or ground blind, but on some occasions, we provide spot and stalk opportunities as well. Everyone’s hunting ability is different, so we make sure you are provided a 100% sighting success opportunity while you are at Blackbird Ranch. No doubt you will leave with less ammunition than you arrived with.
Our free-range whitetail deer and hog hunting begin with your arrival at noon or 3 p.m. A noon arrival starts with introductions and a review of the rules. We get you settled into your rooms, then head out to make sure your deer rifles are sighted in. After a brief break, we’re out to the stands for an afternoon free-range hunt. The hunt lasts until dark, when your guide returns to pick you up from your stand and retrieve any downed animals you may have. Your guide will bring you back to the lodge, where you can enjoy dinner while your harvested game is processed. Savor the evening around a fire with your favorite beverages among friends new and old.
Your guide will drop you off in the morning at dark, generally an hour or more before the feeders go off. You will be picked up around 10 a.m. unless your group decides to hunt a little longer. We will hunt as hard as you like—your hunt, your vacation. After your return to the lodge, your guide will process any harvested game while you eat a late breakfast or brunch. This is a perfect time to catch a nap or grab your tackle box and rod for trophy bass, big catfish, or crappie. You can bring a shotgun for a little afternoon skeet shooting or simply relax at the lodge until the evening free- range hunt. This hunt begins around 3 p.m. with a return to a stand until dark.
